At LAWN & LINTEL, we take great satisfaction in getting a job done well.

A picture is worth a thousand words…

Rossmoyne Project 1 - Triple Subdivision New Build

This prominent corner block in Rossmoyne was subdivided into a new build of three townhouses requiring landscaping.

The owner wanted an aesthetically pleasing solution which would work well with the facades of the 3 properties while also preserving the individuality of each.

Given the colour scheme of the properties we opted for reconstituted limestone garden edging to complement the sandy overtones with a selection of Pittosporum hedging and waterwise native Lomandra to screen between the properties and also provide some privacy in front of the windows.

Soft leaf Sir Walter Buffalo was installed on the council verges and Teddy Bear Magnolia trees placed to reinforce the hedge boundaries between each townhouse.

For ease of maintenance and practicality, the side of each property had concrete slabs and blue metal walkways to provide access with a cost effective zero maintenance solution.

A crisp and modern approach to the landscaping really highlighted the carefully selected exterior colour palette which the owner tastefully selected, maintaining unity within the three properties while also retaining the individuality of each home.

In the words of our client:

“The service was excellent and to a very high standard with great communication and demonstration of skills and knowledge throughout the process.

You transformed our project into beautiful homes. We absolutely love the end result, it’s much better than what we had in mind to begin with.”

Cecilia from Rossmoyne

Rossmoyne Project 2 - Renovated Landscaping of worn out front gardens

A newly purchased property with a diamond in the rough garden waiting to be transformed.

The client had some very specific requests as to the aesthetics which were quite unique, and our landscape architect worked in close collaboration to ensure that the 3D rendered design would give the result exactly as the owner envisioned.

This is by far the most eye-catching property on the street with the well proportioned modern house accentuated with features such as topiaries, tiered garden beds with curved merbau slats on top of reconstituted limestone planters as per the requested design, a vigorous and vibrant kikuyu lawn for full sun exposure.

Roses in iceberg white and brilliantly red Satchmo adorn the side in a curved garden bed with a Tiny Trev lilly pilly hedge designed to conveniently conceal reticulation box lids in the former lawn.

Mango, cherry, and nectarine planted alongside the driveway will provide both shade and a healthy drive-thru snack in future.

Concentric circles of corten steel with snowstone pebbles highlight an explosion of colour with perennial limoneum and annual cockcomb flowers surrounding a central water feature.

Waterwise lomandras provide geometry and structure in front of the house window and also surround terracotta pots housing Moses in the Cradle providing interest to the walk to the front door.

Applecross Project 3 - Installing a new lawn

A client presented with a very sickly lawn which was the aftermath of an African lawn beetle infestation and also a poor soil profile.

We tested for lawn beetle with soapy water and found it was swarming and required multiple treatments with lawn beetle killer.

After this we used kikuyu as the best suited grass for the full sun this lawn experienced with a deep soil improvement to enhance the ability of the soil to hold water and nutrients.

The lawn has never been better.

While we typically take on larger projects, this is an example of how we are often able to fit smaller jobs into our schedule too.

Our client says:

“Thanks to Josh and the guys for doing a fantastic job replacing my backyard lawn.

A quick, concise and transparent quote, delivery of a service exactly as outlined and the lawn is in amazing condition.

The team sorted out the issues by improving soil and killing beetles that destroyed my old lawn.

Back yard is refreshed and looking great.”

Robert from Applecross

Victoria Park Project 4 - Renovated Landscaping of period home

A tired period home required a modern face lift and our client wanted to incorporate a fresh reconstituted limestone retaining wall on the property line which used to be old limestone and picket fence along with new lawn and garden beds.

A pittosporum hedge would replace the old picket fence. This house would be repainted incorporating modern greys and a yellow door. This would influence our plant selection with light green natives such as variegated dianella wyeena and bush zest kangaroo paw to echo colour palette. The light colour of the pittosporum would complement the neutral colour scheme of the house and the existing viburnum hedge in a tiered perimeter while the yellow overtones of the kangaroo paw would mirror the door.

Soft leaf Sir Walter Buffalo would also make the front yard pop and contrast nicely with the exposed aggregate driveway and curved walkway which our client put in.

In the words of our client:

“I am so thrilled with the final result of my front yard landscape project.

It has totally transformed and beautified my property.

The communication, quality, service and friendliness offered by Joshua and his team is exceptional. Joshua went above and beyond by assisting me with issues I had concerning the installation of my driveway which was unrelated to his project.

Many thanks to Joshua and the team for a job well done!”

Karen from East Vic Park

Victoria Park Project 5 - Landscaping for renovated house on market

A newly renovated property that was about to be put on the market required extensive landscaping within a certain budget.

The client opted for a low maintenance solution along the sides of the house and went with our recommendations for basalt and concrete slab walkways which tied in nicely with the basalt and concrete slab fire pit area in the corner.

Soft leaf Sir Walter Buffalo and reticulation were installed to the verge, front, and rear lawn areas while a reconstituted limestone garden edging provided sharp garden beds for a variety of plants including lilly pilly, a westringia native rosemary hedge, acacia limelights and cordylines for a hardy but modern garden.

Our client also had a few olive trees and cottonwood plants which we placed in the best positions in the garden.

Landscaping can really increase the value of your property and if you are looking to sell the return on investment is really quite phenomenal.

The house sold at its intended value point shortly after.

In the words of our client:

“Beautiful work from Joshua and his team. He has been amazing with everything from setting up to finishing touch. Would highly recommend his landscaping service.”

Welshpool Project 6 - Commercial Precincts

The front of a local hydraulic hose and fitting supplier warehouse was originally just dead weeds and wild grass and our client wanted a combination of natives and trees to mirror a business across the road.

We went our own way with the design and went for a formal layout with native Australian waterwise plants and a strip of hardy Kikuyu lawn. Our design featured Magnolia, Cordyline, lomandra, eremophila, and emu bush which brought this warehouse front and inner carpark to life with hardy plants.

While we mainly have focussed on residential properties, we are more than capable and keen to deliver on commercial properties too.

City Beach Project 7 - New Build

Our clients in City Beach had recently renovated their house and had been planning on doing the landscaping for over a year before they approached us after being recommended by our clients from Rossmoyne Project 1. They already had a design from their own designer however we were able to make various tweaks here and there to better suit the clients’ needs and execute the plan.

A prominent corner block with a huge garden area made the best use of space with a variety of fruit trees, flowers such as osteospermum, dichondra silver fall as ground cover between bluestone steppers, camellias, snowmaiden hedges, sweet viburnum, summerscent, orange jasmine, the latest Queen Mum Agapanthus variety, Palmetto Buffalo, liriope, crepe myrtles, star jasmine, standardized Gardenias, as well as hardscaping such as paving extensions to the driveway and back yard and installation of straightcurve steel edging.

Landscaping is often the final piece of the puzzle in renovations, however we actually advise it to be done as soon as possible above all other house modifications as plants and fruit trees take time to mature.

North Perth Project 8 - Travertine Paving and Drainage

Repaving this area with French pattern Travertine required a new drainage system and soakwells installed.

The old paving was reused around the side to maximize value and practicality.

The modern Mediterranean architecture of the house has really been elevated with Travertine which has enhanced the aesthetic.

Alfred Cove Project 9 - New Build

A stunning transformation of an empty space on a newly built property designing in line with the clients’ vision and providing a plethora of interest for a relatively smaller backyard utilizing different “rooms” within the landscaping.

A reticulated shade house provides an environment to grow a variety of orchids as our client is an avid orchid enthusiast, a clad veggie planter box provides a practical element to grow herbs and vegetables while remaining stylish and doubling up as an entertainment side board. Other elements are a tailor made arch for climbing plants such as star Jasmine to climb up to form an arbour, a room of dichondra and bluestone steppers leading to a bench and the shade house skirted by little ruby, cherry bomb lilly pilly to eventually shield the shadehouse, a concrete driftwood and snowstone pebble walkway, a colourful explosion of flowers in the garden beds featuring ganzania and limoneums. Along the laundry area a concrete slab and basalt walkway provides easy access and water features provides a cooling effect and calming sound near the alfresco.

In the front and back, soft leaf Sir Walter Buffalo provides a place for pets to play and an immediate cooling effect on a previously hot microclimate.

A retaining wall from carbon limestone blocks out the front integrates with the letterbox and planter with agapanthus, little ruby, ganzanias, and liriope providing colour to the front.

A formal hedge of snow maidens provides privacy to the front windows and natives including dianella, kangaroo paw, and lomandra provide a waterwise front verge dividing strip.

A small blueberry hedge also provides some edible interest too.
